Why did Marvel Rivals Get Rid Of Mods?

Marvel Rivals is a game that has been taking the world by storm since it's release in late 2024, and with that it has garnered attention and of course MODS. These mods were not any that were game breaking (for the most part), but the most popular ones certainly were not. These were simply skin mods, where players wanted to be a pistol wielding Peter Griffin, or an anime character, or even the old reliable skibidi toilet. These were the source of countless TikToks and reels, as well as some funny entertainment that only changed the appearance on the players screen, no one else was being caught off guard mid match from a stray Deadpool. But at the release of the first season, mods were banned and all standard and in game skins were returned to players screens leaving many asking,
But Why?
Well, I can tell you why.
Money
Games like Marvel Rivals make a large portion of their money from in game purchases. Actually a majority of live service games boast massive income numbers from in game cosmetic purchases, from Call Of Duty, to that FUCKING HORSE ARMOR, in game purchases make the world go round. This time around Marvel Rivals simply did the inevitable, and banned the usage of mods in hopes to funnel more purchases into their in game store. Because we both know that you're not going to spend money on a skin, when you can simply mod the game so that your screen shows that you have it. So sadly there is not deep state tin foil reason behind the ban, and also definitely no hope in seeing it lifted. Simply a business move that unfortunately removes a pretty comical part of a game.
Now, the caveats to it all;
If you keep using mods, even with the ban in place there is no real set in stone fact that you will be banned. Now in all realness the devs are definitely are more focusing on banning and chasing down mods and file tampering that are for an actual advantage, and less likely to chase you down for using a mod to have a naked character model. As well, the devs have posted on their official profile on X about mods, about how they do not want an advantage being given to those tampering with files BUT also intend on officially adding in game sources for things. This could be alluding to the open allowance of mods later on if they use a permitted pathway of alteration, or more likely that they are adding mouse acceleration and UI changes in game that popular mods are giving. But at this point all mods are banned, and when you see the mods begin to come back up that they are usable again, be sure to know you are risking a ban, even if it is just cause you're wanting to a be a giant chicken.
