This past week the launch of the Nvidia 50 series was announced, and with it the claim that their 5070 will be on par with the current mecca of GPU's, the 4090. This claim was backed up with the added fact that the price point was going to be a staggeringly affordable $549 USD. That is just shy of a third of the price of the 4090 on release which debuted at $1,599 USD in 2022. Of course that was at the height of issues caused by COVID and GPUs were hard to get and that skyrocketed the prices both from initial cost and from scalpers. But regardless of that, this price and claim would not only reset the GPU price issue but it would also drive down the prices of used GPU's as well, and personally that sounds amazing.

Now, the real question to be answered... does it actually do what it claims.

As the title says, the answer is yes but not a straight forward yes so more of a kinda. So the reason the answer is kinda, but because of the fact that the GPU is utilizing Nvidia DLSS 4, which uses multi frame rate generation so the GPU is able to use AI to outcompete the older graphics cards. There have been numerous stories and articles being told about the testing booths at the convention, some claiming them to be legit and some saying otherwise. But from the best I have seen they say this is the big pitch "AS LONG AS THE GAME SUPPORTS MULTIFRAME RATE GENERATION", then the 5070 can hang in there with the 4090, but if the game in question does NOT support multi frame rate generation, then the 4090 is substantially faster. So what that means is basically that the new GPU has access to technology the older one does not, but where the older model does not have access it makes up for it with brute force. I relate it to if you have a air powered tools, or a really large person. Of course having air powered tools are going to do the same job, hell maybe even better, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE AIR SYSTEM TO RUN THEM. Other wise the really large person is going to the the job done REGARDLESS of the support system, because at the end of the day they're a powerhouse.

So, what does this all really mean? Well, to be honest it is too early to tell. Since Nvidia is a major GPU company, it is likely that a majority of games are planning to continue to have this multi frame rate generation software in their games for this very reason. Which means sooner or later these new models are going to be the go-to for PC players. Which personally sounds great to me, cheaper parts that work just as well. I highly doubt they would have gone through all of that R&D just for gaming companies to NOT play ball. Personally I will be waiting to upgrade, to see how it all plays out with new/old game usage in the hands of average players and not in a sanctioned environment before I make my call.
